Football Shirt Triva Games

I've had a bit of free time over the holidays and thought I would post some links to football kit related games on Sporcle

Perfect for a bit of time wasting if you are beginning to get bored on your time off or are stuck at work while everyone else is still on holiday!

Can you name the Soccer Shirts by Sponsors?

Can you name the Soccer Shirt Sponsors?

Can you name the most popular names printed on premier league football shirts (2009/10 season)?

Can you name the 2010-11 Football League Shirt Sponsors?

BBC News - Football shirts are big business for two ex-students

I saw this story on the BBC website and thought it was interesting:

"One of their biggest coups so far was a deal they landed with Italian giants AC Milan.

"We had a great deal in which we purchased over 15 years of kit room stock, all the items they used in matches in training kit, shirt shorts and sock and even down to the underpants," said Mr Bierton.

"There's some really nice shirts that David Beckham wore so we're lucky in that sense - maybe the underpants will be a bit of a slow seller.""

You can read the full story here on the BBC Manchester site though I must admit I can't see match worn underpants becoming the next big thing in soccer memorabilia!

An Epic Swindle - Brian Reade

Over the last few days I have been reading the very good book An Epic Swindle by Brian Reade and was interested in the following couple of snippets regarding Liverpool's previous relationships with sponsors:

"Back in 1979, under the stewardship of Peter Robinson and John Smith, Liverpool became the first English club to have sponsors' names on their shirts, after a deal was sealed with Hitachi....

It was small wonder some sponsors left. An executive at one former sponsor found after the deal was over that his firm had been entitled to have an end-of-season game on the Anfield pitch. When he asked why he hadn't been told about the perk, the answer was: 'Well, you never asked us'".

Chicago Fire MLS Soccer Ornament on Etsy

Firstly, I'd like to wish you all a happy Christmas and I hope you have plenty of time over the holidays to spend with friends and family watching football (football is of course the real reason this time of year is special).

What better better way to celebrate the holiday season than with some football related festivity?

I found this Chicago Fire Christmas ornament on Etsy and every Christmas tree could be improved by adding a snowman in a Santa hat with an MLS theme! :)

A gift idea perfect for any fan of the Christmas tree formation!

Thanks to Soccer Ornaments for permission to use their photo and you can see the item over at Etsy.

Patrik Berger Shirt on Etsy

This is another item for the Wayward Wishlist and would be the ideal gift for a family member or friend who just cannot get enough Patrik Berger merchandise.

I particularly like that the Carlsberg logo has been customised to read Berger instead and you can see the item for sale over at Etsy.
And here is some footage of the great Czech in action for Liverpool:

Nottingham Forest Home Shirt 2010-2011

I managed to pick up this Nottingham Forest home shirt as a bit of a bargain online which was great as I was very keen to get my hands on some Umbro gear. The shirt itself has a very simple design and I think this simplicity is the key as to why the 'Tailored by Umbro' range has been so popular.

Since I have been watching football Nottingham Forest shirts have been made by Umbro (in fact the relationship between Umbro and Forest has been in place since the 1986-87) and I was thinking this must be one of the longest continuous kit deals in English football?

I thought it was a nice touch as well to include tags with some retro Umbro logos, including their slogan that "We do not clothe the world, only the sports world" and the little factoid 15 out of 16 teams at the World Cup in 1966 wore Umbro kits.
